The State of Motorcycle Maintenance (2025 Edition)

Motorcycle maintenance has changed.

Modern bikes are built with more electronics, better materials, and longer service intervals. But that doesn’t mean you can skip regular upkeep.

In 2025, we’re seeing two common trends:

• Riders are going longer between services
• More bikes are showing up with problems that could have been prevented

Riders are busy. Some assume that if the bike starts and stops, everything’s fine. But small issues build up fast. Low fluid levels, worn tires, loose bearings—these don’t always show obvious signs until it’s too late.

What’s causing this?

More bikes are equipped with fuel injection and electronic systems. These features make the ride smoother, but they also hide symptoms. A carbureted bike that ran poorly used to tell you something was wrong. A fuel-injected bike might just adjust and keep running. That doesn’t mean the problem’s gone.

Want your bike to last longer and perform better?

Stick to the schedule in your owner’s manual. It’s based on distance or time. Whichever comes first.

If you don’t know what service your bike needs, ask a mechanic. A minor service might be enough. If you’re past a major mileage point, you may need a full inspection.

One more thing—don’t forget your tires. Many riders delay replacing them. Old or flat-spotted tires are dangerous, even if the tread looks okay.

Maintenance isn’t just about keeping your bike running. It’s about safety. It’s about peace of mind.

Take care of your bike, and it’ll take care of you.

If you haven’t had a service in a while, now’s a good time.
