What’s In a Service? Here’s What to Expect
Motorcycle servicing doesn’t need to be complicated. At Imperial Motorcycles, we aim to make it as clear and straightforward as possible. Whether you’re coming in for a quick fix or a full check-up, our goal is to keep your ride safe, smooth, and road-ready.
We generally break motorcycle servicing into two categories:
- Quick Service
- Major Service
Here’s a simple breakdown of what each includes—and why it matters.
Quick Service
Quick services cover basic, routine maintenance. These jobs are typically focused on individual components and are often priced at a flat labour rate. Some examples include:
- Oil and filter changes
- Tire installation
- Brake pad replacement
They’re essential for keeping your bike running smoothly between larger service intervals. That said, some jobs take longer depending on the make and model of your motorcycle. Touring bikes, for example, often require more time due to their added bodywork and accessories. That’s why we’ll usually ask what kind of bike you have before providing a quote—so we can give you an accurate estimate based on the work involved.
Major Service
Major services are more comprehensive and involve inspecting and maintaining multiple systems on your motorcycle. We offer three levels of major service:
1. Minor Service
Ideal for routine upkeep, a minor service typically includes:
- Replacing oil and filters
- Checking cables, fluids (coolant, brake, clutch), and electrical components
- Inspecting tires, wheels, brakes, steering head bearings, and final drive
- Spot-checking items specific to your bike’s make and model
It’s a solid all-around inspection that helps catch issues early.
2. Full Service
This includes everything in a minor service, plus additional maintenance such as:
- Replacing spark plugs
- Inspecting or replacing the air filter
- A more detailed mechanical check-up
It’s a more thorough look at your bike’s condition and performance—ideal if you haven’t had a full check-up in a while.
3. Full Service with Valve Adjustment
This is the most in-depth service we offer. It includes everything above, plus a valve clearance inspection and adjustment if needed. It’s typically recommended at specific mileage intervals, depending on the manufacturer’s service schedule.
Why It Matters
Staying on top of your service schedule can extend the life of your motorcycle, improve safety, and save you money in the long run by catching small issues before they become big problems.
If you’re unsure what kind of service your bike needs, just give us a call or drop by the shop. Our experienced team will walk you through it—no pressure, no upselling, just honest advice from riders who know motorcycles.
