Battery Basics 101 – Don’t Ignore it or it will die!

 

The weather has been fabulous for getting on your motorcycle this winter. People are making ready to ride and we are seeing a reccurring theme this year, dead batteries. It is all too often that when the bike goes to bed in the fall the battery gets neglected. A simple solution to keeping your $200 battery happy is a $40 investment in a battery tender.

If taken care of a battery is good for 3-5 years. If not, well, who knows. The downside of a dead battery is most riders don’t know it until the day they get that temp tag to go ride and the blasted thing has given up the ghost.

Most batteries don’t come pre-charged. Yes, you can get a new one good to go in an hour but it is best to give it a low, long charge – which means “come back tomorrow”.

So a little forethought goes a long way.
